How to be "grandfathered in" to NEM 2.0

In the face of changes to the rules regulating net metering, many businesses in California are scrambling to be grandfathered in to the existing framework.

NEM 2.0 represents the best we’ve ever had it in the commercial solar industry, valuing the energy solar customers feed back into the grid at the retail rate of electricity.

NEM 3.0, which will be phased in as of April 15, 2023, cuts this valuation significantly, essentially to allow the utilities (who have hiked their rates more than 40% since 2018) to claw back revenue lost to solar customers.

Clearly, being grandfathered in to NEM 2.0 is a much better option than waiting it out. So how do you do that?

  1. Energy Usage Data: You can share your energy data in a few clicks, which provides the basis of an accurate system development.

  2. Proposal Generation: Once we have analyzed the data we can develop a proposal to offset as much as 100% of your utility consumption and about 80% of the costs.

  3. Plans Submission: To be grandfathered in, we need to have completed engineering and submitted plans to the City before April 14, 2023.
