SCE hikes rates again for San Bernardino and Riverside County Businesses

Businesses in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties and the Inland Empire face the new year with further significant increases in their energy bills. With all major California utility companies like Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas & Electric on the verge of imposing substantial rate hikes, those that are supplied by SCE in the region are bracing for another 9% in 2024.

On top of increasing commercial rates by 39% since 2020, this new 9% increase is set to be followed by further incremental rises until 2027, when another 45% will be added to today’s rates. That’s 84% since the start of the COVID epidemic!

These sharp surges in energy costs are becoming a pressing issue for businesses, emphasizing the need for cost-effective and sustainable energy alternatives.

Adapting to VNEM Adjustments

In addition to the rising energy rates, local businesses served by SCE must also prepare for the forthcoming changes in Virtual Net Energy Metering (VNEM), set to be implemented in February 2024.

These revisions will substantially change the way energy is metered for businesses with extensive or multiple properties. With new rules limiting solar installations to one meter each, the financial incentives of solar energy could be impacted unless addressed promptly. For businesses, it's essential to understand and adapt to these changes to maintain operational efficiency and optimize energy savings.

In this dynamic energy environment, transitioning to commercial solar is increasingly becoming a vital and appealing decision.
